AORN Leadership Specialty Assembly

Management Monday 12-29-25

Posted 2 months ago by Jennifer Parrott

Good morning everyone,

This is our last Monday of the year!

As we set our sights on 2026, many of us are setting goals not just for our departments—but for our teams and ourselves as leaders.

What is one thing you hope to accomplish or improve as a leader in 2026?
This could be related to culture, safety, communication, professional development, or work-life balance.

One of my personal goals is to practice the same grace and patience with myself that I give to others. We are our own worst critics! :)

One of my professional goals is to continue improving operations while supporting and developing the teams I work with.

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts and learning from one another!

Jennifer I think we could always allow a little more grace to ourselves. As a leader we take on more, have high expectations and are more critical of ourselves many times than we would if we were mentoring or managing a colleague. I should adopt that philosophy as well. My goal is to be supportive of those seeking leadership opportunities mentoring and advising appropriate paths of actions to allow those seeking leadership opportunities. I hear many time from other leaders and C-Suite "they do not have any leadership experience". We have to assist in creating opportunities to show leadership talents so that others may see that they have a potential leader already here. This especially important when others are planning to retire or leave.
