Hello Colleagues, this week I reach out to you to discuss inspiration! How do you inspire your teams to be involved and engaged? This weekend I had the privilege of hearing multiple great speakers at the Southeast conference in Saint Augustine. I heard so many great presenters who inspired me to do better and to lead better. It was mentioned that if your team respects you there is a greater chance they will stay with you no matter what the salary difference is. The reason revolves around them feeling safe in the hands of your leadership.
So, I ask you how do you inspire and make your teams feel safe?

As Aretha Franklin sings RESPECT. That is what I have with my team. Daily rounds, asking how they are and actively listen to the responses. I am not afraid to care for a patient, mop the floor or take out trash. Maya Angelou said "people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel." Recognize your team with kindness and say thank you 100 times each day.
I totally agree, it is very important to treat people with respect and consideration.
Your team needs to know how much you value them. I always want to share credit for accomplishments with them as they are the reason we can achieve the goals we are working for. Inspiration is a two way street, how often is it we get inspired by a team member we are leading?
Gratitude goes a long way. But personal humility does as well. Showing respect, kindness, and gratitude to your team for their hard work and excellent patient WHILE being humble enough yourself to jump in the trenches if needed even if it means it puts you behind. Patient first, then team, leaders are always last.

It is all about building/creating that Culture of Safety. I will never ask something of my team that I am not willing to do myself. There is a huge difference between being a manager and being a leader. I firmly believe that almost anyone can be a manager, but not everyone can be a leader (without putting in the work).
I agree with everyone above. I give out handwritten cards with motivational sayings to show my appreciation for my team members going above and beyond. I also keep candy on my desk which allows the team to come and chat with their concerns, personal problems, etc. It allows them to feel safe, valued and heard. As a leader, a Culture of Safety is paramount and at the forefront of my practice. I will always jump in the trenches with my team, standing shoulder to shoulder with them so they know they are not alone. I lead from a place of love for my team and what we do in our specialties - no one is just a # or replaceable. Everyone has something special to offer. Leading from the heart inspires my team to continuously go above and beyond and to treat each other with kindness and respect, as that is how they are treated (as many of my team members have pointed out to me).
