Greetings

Hoping you are ready to celebrate the 4th of July this week. As we celebrate our nation’s birthday, how does your department celebrate achievements in your department? Are individuals recognized in some way? Are department celebrations arranged so that achievements can be appreciated? Is there one way to show appreciation to your employees that is received better than another? My colleague Karen Niven from (Association of healthcare value analysis professional) AHVAP posted about  leadership today on the AHVAP site. She states “leadership is not a position; it’s a responsibility. It’s a responsibility to show up with integrity, to speak up when it’s easier to stay silent, and to do more when it would be easier to do just enough. True leadership calls us to go beyond our job descriptions, beyond our comfort zones, and beyond expectations—not for recognition, but because the people we serve and the work, we do deserve our best.” Which further lead me to the quote below.

Quote: “Leadership is not a license to do less; it is a responsibility to do more. And that’s the trouble. Leadership takes work. It takes time and energy. The effects are not always easily measured, and they are not always immediate. Leadership is always a commitment to human beings.” Simon Sinek

Happy Fourth of July

Well said! My favorite line is that anyone can be a manager, but not everyone can be a leader!
Leadership is about earning trust and respect, enabling individuals to follow willingly, even in the absence of formal authority.
I try to set an example daily.

It certainly takes courage to be a great leader who genuinely cares about the quality of patient care and the place one works.
