Greeting all I hope you are all well.
Last week in out Leadership Assembly Meeting (LSA) we discussed an issue that is of concern for everyone. Sharps injuries continue to occur in operating rooms across the country. Just by the nature of what we do in the operating room puts at a higher risk of experiencing an injury from a needle, scalpel, saw blade, or any other items that is sharp and could penetrate our gloves or skin. What steps are you taking to prevent sharp injuries? Do you impose safe zones for sharps? Are your surgeons compliant with using these? It is imperative that we follow safe handling of sharp items to reduce the risk and prevent sharp injuries.
Quote” “The future of the safety movement is not so much dependent upon the invention of safety devices as on the improvement of methods of educating people to the ideal of caution and safety."
– Walter Dill Scott, President, Northwestern University (1921)
Hoping you have a happy and Safe week.
Kenny
